MURIEL HALSTED AT THE RANCHERO
MOTEL, Santa Barbara, 1946
Pastel on Heavy Paper 11X14
*Muriel
was Mabel's earliest childhood friend, and they remained
friends until Muriel's death. According to Mabel, the Halstead
plantation was near the Alvarez home at Waialua, Oahu. Muriel,
an illustrator/painter, never married. She and her brother
Rob, an interior decorator who also never married, lived
in the Palos Verde area of L.A. They had another sister,
the only one who married. Muriel was a spirited, very feisty
lady who spoke with a rather stilted, sort of English speech. |
